Camaron Marlar takes the checkers at Duck River.
What won the race: Regaining the lead for good on lap 24, pole-starting Camaron Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., survived a late-race restart to win Sunday's $6,000 Independence Day Special at Duck River Raceway Park. Marlar led four separate times for 31 laps (1, 3-13, 15, 24-40) to claim the $6,000 payday.
Key notes: It's Marlar's second victory of the weekend after topping Friday's $5,000 Ultimate Heart of America Series debut at Thunder Mountain Speedway in Corbin, Ky. ... Seventh-starting Christian Hanger took second on a lap-34 restart and crossed the checkers 0.994 of a second back. ... Oakley Johns advanced six positions and completed the podium finishers. ... Josh Putnam led twice for three laps (2, 22-23) before slowing from fourth to draw the race's sixth and final caution on lap 37. He was credited with 13th. ... Sam Seawright led twice for six laps (14, 17-21) before also calling it a night with a few laps left. ... There were seven total lead changes between Marlar, Putnam and Seawright. ... Ironically, the race's largest incident involved those same drivers on lap three, as Marlar and Putnam made contact at turn-two exit, sending Putnam across the infield on his entrance into turn three. The resulting dust kicked up by Putnam triggered a multicar incident that necessitated a 20-minute red flag for cleanup. The leaders initially raced through the dust cloud, only for Seawright and Jadon Frame to become collected on the following lap while under caution. Both drivers were allowed to complete repairs and maintain their top-five running positions. ... Frame appeared to tangle with Trey Mills as they battled for fifth on lap nine, ending their nights. ... The 40-lap Independence Day Special lasted 46 minutes, with 12 drivers running at the finish.
On the move: Cruz Skinner of Oxford, Ala., started 18th and took fifth on the final lap.
Winner's sponsors: Marlar’s Rick Curl-owned Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Curl Properties, Marlar Auto Mart, Mac Metal Sales & Trusses, Wayne Bowen, Platinum Designs, XS Power and Bilstein Shocks.
