Bobby Pierce celebrates his $20,000 victory at Lincoln Speedway.
What won the race: Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., overpowered early leader Jason Feger to command the final 38 of 50 laps of Monday's Castrol FloRacing Night in America event at Lincoln (Ill.) Speedway for the $20,000 second-round miniseries victory. Like he did during Saturday's Gopher 50 at Minnesota's Deer Creek Speedway, Brandon Sheppard of Berlin, Ill., finished runner-up, 5.276 seconds behind.
Quotable: “Went green there and didn’t really know what that first start was gonna do, then when we got green a second time, that top (line) was there,” Pierce said. “We got to second pretty quickly and from then on, it was just trying to figure a way around (Jason) Feger, he was driving a heck of a race.”
Key notes: Pierce notched his sixth victory over his last 12 races Monday, a stretch that since June 24 he's racked up more than $185,000 in earnings. It's also Pierce's sixth career Castrol Series win, the most all-time. ... Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., led the opening 12 laps before finishing third more than eight seconds behind Pierce. … Ricky Thornton Jr. of Chandler, Ariz., started 20th and finished seventh driving Steve Sheppard's No. 5s Longhorn Chassis after parting ways Sunday with SSI Motorsports. … Garrett Alberson of Las Cruces, N.M., placed fifth after navigating the final 42 laps without a right-front fender. … Tyler Erb of New Waverly, Texas, was running fourth until a flat left-rear tire on lap eight foiled his top-five effort. Erb finished 14th. … Two cautions slowed the 18-minute feature: On the opening lap for Brenden Smith and Bob Sidener piling up in turn four and on lap eight for Erb’s flat left-rear. … Nineteen drivers were running at the finish with seven on the lead lap.
On the move: Ricky Thornton Jr. of Chandler, Ariz., started 20th and finished seventh.
