Pat Doar heads for victory in Proctor Speedway's Silver 1000.
What won the race: Executing a perfect last-lap slider by Jake Redetzke out of turn four, third-starting Pat Doar of New Richmond, Wis., beat Redetkze to the line by 0.146 of a second to win Thursday's 52nd annual Silver 1000 at Proctor Speedway. Doar led twice for nine laps (28-35, 40) to secure the $3,000 victory, notching his third career Silver 1000 triumph (2000, '19).
Quotable: “I didn’t even know we were coming to the checkered, I knew it was getting late … I just got lucky,” Doar said. “It’s a lot of fun racing with Jake (Redetzke) for years … I didn’t touch him tonight and it all worked out. His car was good, but he was starting to slow down on entry and I could just blow it into the corner, so I was trying to time it. It was fun, it’s always fun when you win.”
Key notes: Jake Redetzke, seeking his first career Silver 1000 victory, led twice for 31 laps (1-27, 36-39) before Doar nipped him at the checkers. ... Doar initially powered around the outside of Redetzke to take command on lap 28 before slipping his right-rear tire off the backstretch on lap 36, giving control back to Redetzke until the final lap. ... Ashley Anderson also used a last-lap pass on Jeff Provinzino, taking third. ... Fast qualifier Kevin Burdick started 11th and finished eighth. ... Pole-starting Jayme Lautigar slipped to ninth. ... The race was slowed by three cautions, the largest being a 10-minute red flag for cleanup after a multicar incident on lap seven that nearly sent John Kaanta upside down. The incident also ended the nights for Danny Vang, Brett Shafer, Mike Klippenstein and Tim McMann. ... Lucas Lillo's solo-spin drew the first stoppage on lap six. Lillo was also collected in the lap-seven mess before continuing to place 18th, two laps down. ... The third yellow flag came on lap 15 after Rick Niemi and George Ledin Jr. spun. They both continued and finished one lap behind. ... The main event lasted 23 minutes, with 13 competitors completing 40 laps. ... Klippenstein and Derek Vesel tangled on the first lap of the second heat race, sending Vesel spinning and flipping down the backstretch. He was uninjured, but scratched for the remainder of the night. ... Shane Sabraski, Sammy Mars and Adam Ayotte also scratched after heats.
On the move: Ashley Anderson of Elk Mound, Wis., started eighth and finished third.
Winner's sponsors: Doar’s Rocket Chassis is powered by a Vic Hill Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Tri Star Engines and Transmissions, Kivi Brothers Trucking, I-29 Trailer Sales, Polar Industries and Speedwerx Performance Exhaust.
