Jonathan Davenport leads the way en route to his 50-lap victory.
What won the race: Second-starting Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., earned a commanding flag-to-flag victory in Wednesday's 50-lap Castrol FloRacing Night in America at Eldora Speedway. Davenport's $20,000 winner's prize marks his first Castrol series victory of the season and the fourth of his career — his first since April 27, 2022, at Brownstown (Ind.) Speedway.
Quotable: “I guess it looked (easy, but) from the driver’s seat it didn’t feel too perfect. I can definitely make it better for sure,” Davenport said. “It’s pretty good for a long-run car though, the way it feels. I think it’ll be good once we get to that lap 75-100 mark on Saturday, as long as we keep the fenders on it and keep everything clean. I (need to) quit hitting the wall just a little bit, I done it again there down the back straightaway.”
Key notes: It's Davenport's 11th major event victory at Eldora, including 2022's return of the Million and 2020's Intercontinental Classic. ... Davenport, who won June's $100,030 Dream XXX, will be chasing a record-tying sixth career World 100 globe this weekend. ... Devin Moran and Ricky Thornton Jr. each took advantage of the lap-15 restart, moving into second and third. Moran took the checkers a distant 7.211 seconds behind Davenport, with Thornton a scant 0.601 of a second behind Moran. ... Ironically, Moran and Thornton each earned a $25,000 Dream prelim victory in June before Davenport won his third career Dream. ... Eleventh-starting Carson Ferguson also took advantage of the lap-15 restart and held fifth until Bobby Pierce slipped by him on lap 25. Ferguson settled for sixth. ... Pole-starting Tim McCreadie trailed Davenport the opening 14 laps before slipping to 10th. ... The race's lone caution came on lap 15 when Daulton Wilson slowed from 20th; he continued and finished 19th, one lap down. ... The feature lasted 19 minutes, with 14 drivers completing 50 laps 21 running at the finish. ... Ashton Winger hit the wall in hot laps and scratched for the night. ... Brian Shirley and Chase Junghans each slowed during their qualifying attempts with mechanical trouble. Both teams are executing repairs for Thursday's World 100 prelim. ... Jared Landers scratched from time trials after he felt a vibration from a suspected bent wheel. He later slapped the turn-two wall in his heat and failed to finish.
On the move: Josh Rice of Crittenden, Ky., started 16th and finished ninth.
Winner's sponsors: Davenport’s Lance Landers Motorsports Longhorn Chassis carries sponsorship from Nutrien Ag Solutions, ASC Warranty, Dynagro Seed, Mark Martin Automotive, Mega Plumbing & HVAC, Lucas Oil, Hoosier Racing Tire, VP Racing Fuels, Bilstein and Midwest Sheet Metal.
Points chase: After Eldora: 1. Bobby Pierce (390); 2. Ricky Thornton Jr. (387); 3. Daulton Wilson (291); 4. Jason Feger (279); 5. Garrett Alberson (270); 6. Spencer Hughes (267); 7. Tyler Erb (252); 8. Dennis Erb Jr. (237); 9. Brandon Sheppard (233); 10. Carson Ferguson (231).
