What won the race: Dominating all 40 laps from outside the front row, Shane Sabraski of Rice, Minn., captured Wednesday's Structural Buildings WISSOTA Challenge Series finale at I-94 EMR Speedway while third-finishing Cole Searing unofficially topped ninth-finishing Tyler Peterson to claim his second series championship. Sabraski earned $2,600 for his fourth series victory in taking the checkers 2.464 seconds ahead of runner-up Sammy Mars.
Quotable: "I obviously didn't know how close they were behind me, so I was giving it my all," Sabraski said, later adding that "I just was hoping to get a few wins my first year in this car. You know, I drove (Chad Fouquette's) car a little bit when we were in Arizona and man, the speed difference is a lot and I didn't know how I would do with it. But year, I adapted to it and it's been really fun."
Key notes: Unchallenged throughout, Sabraski built a lead of more than seven seconds before a lap-31 caution. ... Sabraski, a winner of more than 929 multidivision WISSOTA features (including 48 in 2024), notched his 15th victory in his rookie Late Model season. ... Tyler Peterson entered the finale with an 11-point lead on Cole Searing in the battle for the series title, but Searing overcame the deficit with his podium finish. ... Four cautions slowed the action, including on a lap-five restart when second- and third-running Lee Grosz and Travis Budisalovich collided entering turn one (Budisalovich retired). ... Shane Edginton drew a lap-five yellow. ... The third-running Grosz spun on the seventh lap. ... Johnny Broking got into the wall between turns three and four on the 31st lap. ... For the first time the WISSOTA Challenge finale was part of Speedway Motors WISSOTA 100 week with the top eight finishers starting the inside lane of Saturday's $10,000-to-win main event that starts three wide.
