What won the race: Zipping around polesitter Brandon Overton with an outside pass on the seventh lap, sixth-starting Ethan Dotson of Bakersfield, Calif., led the rest of Saturday's 38-lap Jerry Goodwin Challenge for a $5,038 payday on the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series. Dotson took the checkers 1.354 seconds ahead of Trey Mills on NASCAR weekend in Talladega.
Quotable: "This place is super fun. I just knew I had to be aggressive on the starts to get up front," Dotson said. "From where I was starting, this place is kind of hard to pass, so I was just wanted to get by Brandon (Overton) as fast as I could so I had a chance at it. Then I could control the pace of the race."
Key notes: Dotson's first HTF victory came last year at Talladega in a Coltman Farms Racing entry. ... Friday's victory was his first since taking the ASD Motorsports ride earlier this season. ... Series points leader Brandon Overton led the first six laps but slipped back to finish fifth. ... Ashton Winger made an 11th-to-sixth charge. ... A lap-26 yellow fell when Tyler Millwood got hung up on the turn-four banking. ... Caden Mullinax spun on a lap-24 restart. ... The first start was scratched when Jackson Hise and T.J. Alford tangled in turn three. ... Cory Hedgecock, who won the CRUSA 604 feature, was an early retiree. ... The HTF weekend concludes with the $15,000-to-win Red Farmer Tribute on Saturday evening.
