What won the race: Jimmy Thomas of Phenix City, Ala., commanded all 40 laps of Saturday's Rogers-Dabbs Chevrolet Crate Racin’ USA Winter Shootout Series feature that's part of the 34th annual Ice Bowl at Alabama's Talladega Short Track. Thomas, who's fresh off his second career CRUSA national title, earned $4,000 and topped Sam Seawright by 1.305 seconds at the finish.
Quotable: "I've been working hard for this, trying to get my stuff back together, and it feels good to be back on top and dominant like this again," Thomas said in victory lane. "I just wanted to make sure I hit my marks. Them cautions had me nervous a little bit because I felt them a couple times. I knew if I hit my marks, everything would be alright."
Key notes: The Rogers-Dabbs Chevrolet Crate Racin’ USA Winter Shootout Series kicked off its 2025 season on the undercard of the 34th annual Ice Bowl at Talladega Short Track. … The two-day event began with Friday’s time trials and heat races where Thomas set overall fast time honors and won his heat race along with Sam Seawright (runner-up Saturday), Tucker Anderson (eighth Saturday from second-starting spot) and Blake Craft (seventh Saturday from fourth-starting spot). … Six cautions slowed the 40-lap feature that lasted 33 minutes, including five over the final 20 laps: Lee Burdette slowing on lap 20 in the Red Farmer-owned No. F-97; Koulten Herbert and Chase Giddens tangling on lap 30; Jody Knowles on the lap-30 restart; Marty Massey spinning on lap 34; and a multi-car pileup wiping out Giddens, Wil Herrington, Logan Bradford, Donald Johns and Tyler Price. ... It was the first of four races for the early-season miniseries. … 2024 CRUSA Ice Bowl winner Will Roland of Jasper, Ga., wasn't in attendance. ... Sixteen drivers finished on the lead lap.
