What won the race: Using a turn-three slider to overtake Billy Moyer on lap 21, third-starting Timothy Culp of Prattsville, Ark., led the rest of the way to capture Saturday's 35-lap March Madness feature at Springfield Raceway. Culp beat Moyer to the checkers by 0.831 of a second for the $5,000 Comp Cams Super Dirt Series triumph and his first series victory in nearly four years.
Quotable: “I haven’t raced a whole lot the last couple years. I had a little boy. I wouldn’t change it for nothing,” Culp said. “Just kinda getting emotional cause it takes so much work to get here and people don’t understand how hard these races are to win. We just kinda do this as a family, low budget, we probably got a quarter of what a lot of these guys have in their cars. I can’t wait to get back racing. Glad I got another one, and anytime you can outrun Billy (Moyer), you know you had a pretty good hot rod.”
Key notes: Culp captured his 11th career Comp Cams series victory and first since July 29, 2021, at the now-closed I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark.. ... Second-starting Billy Moyer led the opening 20 laps before Culp executed a perfect turn-three slide job and controlled the final 15 circuits. Moyer slipped to third on a lap-22 restart before regaining the runner-up spot from Jon Kirby a few laps later. ... Jake Timm, a World of Outlaws Late Model Series rookie competing at Springfield after Saturday's WoO event in Tennessee was canceled by rain following Friday's show, was third after a back-and-forth battle with Kirby in the closing laps. ... Jon Mitchell started 16th and finished ninth. ... Polesitter Kayden Clatt faded to 10th. ... Clay Stuckey was shooting for his second straight Springfield victory but wasn't a factor in finishing 12th. ... Brandon Ball slowed with a flat right-rear on lap 17, drawing the race's first caution. ... Scott Crigler suffered a flat right-rear on lap 21 and retired. ... Three cautions slowed the 20-minute feature with 21 starters completing the distance. ... Jace Parmley had a lazy rollover at the start of the second consolation but continued until tangling with Steve Stultz on the ensuing restart. ... Mason Oberkramer failed to finish the second heat race and scratched for the night. ... The tour's Friday event at Tulsa (Okla.) Speedway was cancelled by inclement weather.
On the move: Morgan Bagley of Longview, Texas, started 14th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Culp’s Capital Race Car is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Benning Heating & Air, Carrier HVAC, JRI Performance Shocks, SCCS and Earnest Performance.
