Jake Neal of Omaha, Neb., in victory lane in Belleville, Kan.
What won the race: Earning his second straight Malvern Bank Super Late Model Series victory, sixth-starting Jake Neal of Omaha, Neb., went around three-time series champion Tad Pospisil on the 19th lap and raced to a 30-lap Malvern Bank Super Late Model Series victory on the quarter-mile layout at the Belleville High Banks. Neal earned $5,000 in outrunning series points leader Jesse Sobbing, who took second from Kyle Berck on the final restart. Pospisil, who led laps 11-18, faded to fifth.
Quotable: "I couldn't have done it without (car owner) Rick (Honeycutt) tonight. He threw the kitchen sink at it. I just couldn't get no traction in the heat race or time trials and finally found it," Neal said. "It felt like (the high groove) had a lot more bite up there tonight. I don't know if it was watered more up there, or the track just built up a little bit or what, but it was a very fine line and a few times I went into the corner saying my prayers to make it."
Key notes: Polesitter Curt Schroeder led the first 10 laps. ... Two cautions slowed the action. ... On lap 29, Andrew Kosiski slipped over the banking to draw a yellow. ... The first caution appeared on the 23rd lap when Charlie McKenna got sideways between turns three and four. ... McKenna also had problems in heat action. He was leading the first heat when he slipped over the banked between turns three and four, handing the point to winner Bill Leighton Jr. ... The Malvern Bank Super Late Model Series returns Tuesday for another $5,000-to-win event. ... The Joe Kosiski-promoted tour ran on the undercard to the XR Super Series, which ran on the facility's half-mile layout.
On the move: Runner-up Jesse Sobbing of Malvern, Iowa, started eighth.
Winner's sponsors: Neal’s Swartz Race Car has a KS Engineering engine and sponsorship from All Makes Collision, H&H Racing, Beard Vet Coffee, I-80 Farms, Precision Performance, Diamond J Custom Services, Lajoie Seats, Hooker Harnesses, Hess Technology Designs, Prevost Racing, Downtown Recycling, Channel Seed, Midwest Outlaw Garage, Schoenfeld Headers, Wehr’s Machine and SSS Motorsports.
