What won the race: Reigning Structural Buildings WISSOTA Challenge Series champ Darrell Nelson of Hermantown, Minn., led all the way at ABC Raceway's 444 Memorial, fighting off a late challenge from polesitter Danny Vang for a $2,444 payday. Nelson took the checkers 0.356 of a second ahead of Vang in the XR Northern Storm event on the WISSOTA Challenge tour.
Quotable: "This is awesome. You know what this is all for Tanner (Byholm)," Nelson said. "I mean, everybody struggles to get out here you know you got to work and all that (stuff) and I complain about racing and I get here and this is for Tanner, the whole Byholm family. Forty-four laps, No. 44 race car."
Key notes: Nelson led by at least two seconds most of the 44-lapper en route to his fifth career WISSOTA Challenge victory. ... He got held up by a slower car late, helping runner-up Danny Vang make it a race at the finish. ... The most serious caution appeared on a lap-21 restart when second-running Travis Budisalovich spun between turns one and two, triggering a scramble involving several cars (eliminating Jimmy Mars). ...
