What won the race: Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, Wis., inherited the lead on lap five after Kevin Burdick of Proctor, Minn., spun on his own in turn two, while leading. Mars paced the final 21 laps and cruised to win the first 25-lap feature at Gondik Law Speedway on Friday, earning $2,000. The victory is the 12th of Mars' career with the Structural Buildings WISSOTA Challenge Series.
Quotable: "Kevin was running pretty good on the top there and I was just trying to bide my time and unfortunately he got into a little mishap in turn one there. I knew Pat was going to be tough there, he knows how to get around here, so I just moved around a little bit and tried to get where I thought I was somewhat comfortable and just ran that line. We've gotten beat a lot of times by a lot of good guys in the slick, just makes you dig pretty hard, everything worked out good here tonight."
Key notes: Burdick completed only 13 laps and finished 23rd. ... Pat Door of New Richmond, Wis., settled for the runner-up position, 1.095 seconds behind Mars. ... Jeff Massingill of Keewatin, Minn., utilized the extreme bottom of Gondik Law Speedway, advancing 10 positions and finishing third. ... Tenth-starting James Giossi of Roberts, Wis., advanced six positions and finished fourth. ... After running as high as second place in the early laps, WISSOTA Challenge Series point leader Cole Searing of Huron, S.D., faded and finished fifth. ... Local Super Late Model division point leader at Gondik Law, Deven VanHouse of Silver Bay, Minn., advanced nine positions and finished 10th. ... Following the first 25-lap feature, Mars drew a 14-car invert for the second feature, where Darrell Nelson of Hermantown, Minn., led all 25 laps from the pole position, narrowly holding-off a charging Massingill, who continued to utilize the extreme low line. ... Nelson earned his fifth career Twin Ports Twin 25's feature victory and clinched the week-long XR Northern Storm point championship. ... After starting 12th in the second feature, Massingill again passed 10 cars, but settled for the runner-up position, 0.361 seconds back. ... After winning $2,000 at Hibbing Raceway on Wednesday, Travis Budisalovich of Minneapolis, Minn., finished third, while Mars stormed from 14th and finished fourth in the second feature. ... The first Twin Ports Twin 25's feature was slowed by three cautions and lasted 16 minutes, with 22 competitors completing all 25 laps, while the second feature went green-to-checkered and lasted only nine minutes, with 19 competitors completing all 25 laps.
