What won the race: Making an outside move exiting turn four on lap 22, Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., narrowly held-off Ryan Unzicker to capture Friday's 12th annual Junior Kimler Memorial at Farmer City Raceway, earning $3,000. Feger notched his 13th career MARS victory.
Quotable: "Yeah, feels good to get Ryan, he's been really good this year and he got me at Fairbury last week, so it feels good to be able to return the favor," Feger said. "What a good race, I think we beat them on tires there, we went harder than them guys all in front of me had soft tires on and I could definitely tell that it was making a difference once the top got cleaned off. The car is not quite where we want it to be right now, but it was good enough to win, so we definitely have some work to do before the big money stuff, but it's always good to be back home to Farmer City."
Key notes: After leading laps 13 through 21, Unzicker nearly reclaimed the lead from Feger on the last lap, finishing just 0.140 seconds back in a near photo-finish. ... Second-starting McKay Wenger of Fairbury, Ill., ran inside the top-five all race and finished third. ... Polesitter Bob Gardner of East Peoria, Ill., faded in the closing laps and finished fourth after leading the first 12 laps before making slight contact with the turn four wall and giving way to Unzicker. ... Farmer City Raceway local Late Model division point leader Tommy Sheppard Jr. of New Berlin, Ill., finished sixth. ... Friday's feature, the first MARS event since May 29, was slowed by three cautions and lasted 14 minutes, with 10 competitors completing all 30 laps. ... MARS was scheduled to compete at Spoon River Speedway in Banner, Ill., on Saturday, but track officials postponed that event to September because of forecasts for hot weather.
On the move: Justin Duty of Molalla, Ore., started 18th and finished eighth.
Winner's sponsors: Feger’s Longhorn Chassis has a Pro Power engine with sponsorship from Titan Industries, Hoker Trucking, Floyd’s Waste Systems, Digital Copy Systems, RLM Enterprises, Rosser Battery, Remtek Enterprises, Speedwerx, Cheap Cars and Griffin Signs.
