What won the race: Powering around the outside of race-long leader Cole Schill on lap 20 as he was mired in lapped traffic, seventh-starting Tyler Peterson of Hickson, N.D., controlled the rest of Friday's 25-lap Northern LateModel Racing Association stop at River Cities Speedway. Peterson, a five-time NLRA winner last year, led the final six laps to collect the $1,250 winner's prize and his sixth career series victory.
Quotable: “Our team man, we hound, we don’t follow lapped cars," Peterson said. "It don’t matter the situation — well, sometimes if it's rubber, you follow them. Besides that, lapped cars are such a speed killer. Leave it to River Cities to give us the most cowboy up, wild, make-your-lane racetrack. This place, it’s been great to me my whole life. I love this place and we definitely had to work for that one.”
Key notes: Peterson's pass was on the outside of a three-wide scenario as Ryan Corbett showed his nose inside of Schill just as Peterson completed the move at the turn-four exit. ... Corbett grabbed the runner-up spot on the lap-24 restart and finished 0.916 of a second back. ... Schill, who led the opening 19 laps from the pole, settled for third. ... Three-time and reigning series champ Mike Greseth improved four spots and placed fourth. ... Brad Seng overcame a heat race crash to win his consolation and complete the top-10 finishers. ... John Seng spun from sixth and struck an infield tractor tire, bringing out the race's third caution on a lap-seven restart attempt. He was unable to continue and credited with 22nd. ... Friday's 25-lapper lasted 16 minutes, with 17 drivers completing the distance and 19 running at the checkers. ... Dustin Strand improved from sixth before losing an engine while leading the fourth heat race. He was unable to continue. ... Strand won the night's weekly makeup feature from a May 17 rainout.
On the move: River Cities points leader Brody Troftgruben of Grand Forks, N.D., started 14th and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Peterson’s Rocket Chassis is powered by a Corky Thomas Race Engine and carries sponsorship from Enclave, Quick-Lift by TP Fabricating, Northwest Auto Body, Fastenal, AllFab Railings & Metalworks, Powdercoat Specialists, Fox Racing Shox and Slider Shots Media.
