AMS champion Gregg Satterlee enjoys victory lane at BAPS.
What won the race: Whipping around polesitter Dylan Yoder on the second lap, fellow front-row starter Gregg Satterlee of Indiana, Pa., led the rest of Sunday's 35-lap Appalachian Mountain Speedweek finale at BAPS Motor Speedway for a $5,000 pday. Satterlee secured his third Speedweek victory of the season and clinched the 2024 miniseries title. He also won the title in 2013.
Quotable: “This place has been really good to us. Been here three times and got three wins,” Satterlee said. “It’s a fun place to race, you can really move around on it. I thought I needed to move down there at the beginning when I got the lead .. I really didn’t feel like I was going as fast as what I should and I saw (Dan) Stone’s nose and I was able to get back to the top. Thanks to Jim Bernheisel for the Appalachian Mountain Speedweek Series, we appreciate him for putting all these races on.”
Key notes: Satterlee's victory lifts him to a perfect 3-for-3 at BAPS after topping two unsanctioned events there in 2020, worth $7,000. ... Ninth-starting Kyle Hardy grabbed the runner-up spot on a lap-25 restart and trailed Satterlee the final 10 laps, finishing 1.248 seconds back. ... The pole-starting Yoder, of Middleburg, Pa., ended up third after leading the opening lap. Yoder was seeking his second straight AMS triumph after collecting $5,000 in Saturday's visit to Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa. ... Justin Weaver improved seven positions and placed fourth. ... Gene Knaub, winner of 2017's most recent AMS event there prior to Sunday, rounded out the top five. ... Dan Stone worked his way as high as second early before slipping to sixth. ... Coleby Frye suffered a flat right-rear while running second on lap 24, drawing the race's second and final stoppage. He finished 13th. ... Hayes Mattern caused the first caution when he appeared to lose an engine on lap 13 and required a tow to the pits. ... Sunday's AMS finale lasted 27 minutes, with 16 competitors completing 35 laps and 18 running at the checkers.
On the move: Runner-up Kyle Hardy of Stephens City, Va., started ninth.
