Home-stater Kyle Hardy repeated at Winchester (Va.) Speedway.
What won the race: Hustling by race-long pacesetter Kenny Moreland on a lap-14 restart, seventh-starting Kyle Hardy of Stephens City, Va., seized control and never looked back to win Saturday’s 51-lap Jimmy Spence Memorial at Winchester Speedway. Hardy’s $6,091 payday marked his second straight triumph in the memorial race and his fifth overall victory at Winchester since May 2023.
Quotable: “To put on a show like that when I felt like I was down and out a little bit … we just got an unreal feature setup for this place,” Hardy said. “Man, I just can’t believe we won from seventh tonight. I really thought we were just gonna have to escape with a top-five. Just truly unbelievable.”
Key notes: Hardy, who won a RUSH Crate Late Model feature Friday at Potomac Speedway in Buddy Creek, Md., pushed his earnings for five Winchester victories over the past 13 months to more than $27,000. … Tyler Bare grabbed the runner-up spot from Moreland on a lap-26 restart and trailed 2.554 seconds behind Hardy at the checkered flag. … Moreland slipped as low as fourth after losing the lead but regained third on lap 38 and finished there. … Eighth-starting Derick Quade challenged Moreland for third before settling for fourth. … The event honored James “Jimmy” Thomas Spence of Frederick County, Va., who owned and operated Champion Auto Sales. Spence was also a successful racer in the Winchester, Va., area aboard his Team 91 race car before passing away on Feb. 1, 2020, at the age of 68. ... The feature was slowed by six cautions and lasted 36 minutes, with 16 drivers completing the distance. ... Matt Adams scratched following hot laps.
On the move: Mike Franklin of Winchester, Va., started 23rd and finished eighth.
