Tyler Erb takes the checkers to grab his seventh Summer Nationals victory.
What won the race: Staving off a mid-race challenge from Jason Feger, second-starting Tyler Erb of New Waverly, Texas, led the final 22 laps to win Sunday's $5,000 DIRTcar Summer Nationals feature at Red Hill Raceway. Erb notched his seventh series victory of the season and the 11th of his career, coming up just three points short of Feger for the $10,000 week 3 championship bonus.
Quotable: “(We) hadn’t gotten a win this week, been really fast, just had to keep working on this thing and get it good,” Erb said. “After the heat race, I knew my car felt like it has the last two weeks, so just had to bide our time and work that top (line). It came in and that’s probably the widest (surface) I’ve ever raced here, so it was a lot of fun. Feger and me, we had a hard race there through traffic, but it feels good to get the win, especially here.”
Key notes: The win is Erb's second career Summer Nationals victory at Red Hill after grabbing 2022's $5,000 payday there. He boosts his Hell Tour race winnings to more than $55,000 thus far. ... Tenth-starting Feger, of Bloomington, Ill., lost ground to Erb in the closing laps, taking the checkers 3.966 seconds back. ... Dillon McCowan paced the opening eight circuits from the pole before giving way to Erb and Feger, settling for third. ... Eighth-starting Tyler Clem finished fourth. ... Ashton Winger challenged Feger for the runner-up spot on lap 18 before hopping the turn-three cushion and slipping to seventh with rear spoiler damage following wall contact. ... Clay Stuckey gained six spots and placed ninth. ... The race's lone caution came out on lap nine when Mark Voigt slowed from 12th and required a push back to the pits. ... Sunday's 14th round, the finale of the third week of competition, lasted 12 minutes, with nine drivers completing the distance and 16 running at the finish.
On the move: Runner-up finisher Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., started 10th.
Winner's sponsors: Erb’s winning Best Performance Motorsports Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Langenfelder Mechanical Contractors, Bulk Material Lift, First Class Septic, Roberts Bee Company, Anthony’s Pizza, JRR Trucking, Base Racing Fuel, Base Oil, Sani-Weld, Inc., Keyser Manufacturing, Integra Racing Shocks, Go Lithium Batteries, Midwest Sheet Metal, Terbo Threads and KBC Graphix.
