What won the race: Inheriting the point when race-long pacesetter Drake Troutman slowed suddenly to draw the race's fifth caution on lap 19, third-starting Carson Ferguson of Lincolnton, N.C., led the remainder of Sunday's fourth annual 4B4EVER 40 at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex. Ferguson collected $10,000 in his debut at Brushcreek and notched his second win of the season aboard the Donald and Gena Bradsher-owned Longhorn — his first since April 12's $5,000 Hunt the Front weekend opener at All-Tech Raceway in Ellisville, Fla.
Quotable: “God, these things are so hard to win,” Ferguson said. “Drake (Troutman’s mechanical woes) blessed the whole field there, I don’t know what happened (and) I really hate that for him. He was the class of the field. Luckily things went our way tonight. This memorial race for Mr. (Jackie) Boggs, I never got to meet him, didn’t have the pleasure to do that, but he’s one that I always watched on videos growing up and he was a wheelman. I gotta thank everybody for putting this race on.”
Key notes: Troutman, the defending event winner, led the opening 19 laps from the pole before his car appeared to shut off, as if it lost power, coming off turn four. He was credited with 15th. ... After winning the consolation Josh Rice improved 14 positions and finished second, 0.561 of a second back at the line. Rice had an eventful day after Troutman threw a slider on him to win the second heat race, sending him spinning on the final lap. Rice then sustained damage in the race's sixth and final caution on lap 38 when Paul Moore spun in front of him, in the cushion. Already committed to the high line, Rice slid his car sideways, making contact with Moore, but was able to retain his runner-up position for the three-lap dash to the finish. ... Third-running Clay Harris pulled off under the lap-38 caution trailing heavy smoke. ... Tyler Carpenter rebounded to third after nearly becoming airborne when he tangled with Derek Fisher on the opening lap, collecting Jerry Bowersock. The red flag lasted 25 minutes as Bowersock climbed from his car and walked to the ambulance for additional medical attention. Fisher, whose car nearly went upside down as well, completed only two additional laps before pulling off. ... Second-starting R.J. Conley pulled off during the opening-lap stoppage. ... The event pays tribute to Jackie Boggs of Grayson, Ky., a standout racer who captured three victories each on the Lucas Oil and World of Outlaws tours, including countless wins at the local and regional levels; Boggs died on Oct. 24, 2020 at the age of 51. ... The 40-lap feature lasted 47 minutes, with eight competitors completing the distance.
On the move: Runner-up finisher Josh Rice of Verona, Ky., started 16th.
