B.J. Robinson picked up his fourth career Comp Cams victory.
What won the race: Inheriting the lead when Logan Martin headed to the pits with a flat right-rear tire during a lap-27 caution period, B.J. Robinson of Bossier City, La., controlled the remaining distance to capture Saturday night’s 35-lap Comp Cams Super Dirt Series feature at Arrowhead Speedway. Robinson pulled away to defeat Jon Kirby by 3.608 seconds for his first win of 2024 on the regional tour and a $5,000 payday.
Quotable: “Man, what an awesome place,” Robinson said. “The last time we come here, they hadn’t had Late Models here a lot and they didn’t do a lot to the track. Hats off to them — they worked their butt off to try and get us a good race.”
Key notes: Robinson’s fourth career Comp Cams Series triumph was his first since May 5, 2023, at Batesville Motor Speedway in Locust Grove, Ark. His only previous victory this season was on March 23 in a Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series feature at Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, Miss. … After Billy Moyer led laps 1-6, Martin seized command and appeared headed to his third series victory of the season. But he began to falter before a pair of lap-27 caution flags and finally had to relinquish the top spot to change his car’s right-rear tire; he settled for a 10th-place finish after leading laps 7-27. … Kirby grabbed second on lap 29 and went on to finish in the position. He never threatened Robinson but recorded a season-best result. … Oklahoma’s Chris Wilhite Jr. slipped past Moyer for third on the final lap to claim his first-ever podium finish with the Comp Cams Series. … Moyer faded back to a fourth-place finish while Kyle Beard picked up three spots on the final lap to place fifth. ... Among the race’s six caution flags, Brad Smith and Chance Mann tangled on the homestretch on lap nine; Brandon Ball spun in turn two on lap 12; Brett Hansen climbed the turn-two wall on lap 27; and a multi-car tangle in turn that included fourth-running Justin Wells. … Charlie Cole was scheduled to start 11th but pulled off the track during the feature’s pace laps and took the green flag at the rear of the field. He rallied to finish eighth.
On the move: Cole Wells of Aurora, Mo., started 23rd and finished seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Robinson’s DP Motorsports Black Diamond Race Car is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from David Peterson Contracting, Andrew’s Towing & Recovery, Comprehensive Motorsports, FiberTec Laser Cutting, Cooper’s Country Meat Packers, Comp Industrial Resources and Go Lithium.
