Devin Moran captures his second straight Indiana Icebreaker victory.
What won the race: Executing a perfect turn-four crossover back by Ricky Thornton Jr. on a lap-33 restart, second-starting Devin Moran of Dresden, Ohio, led all 50 laps to capture Saturday's $25,000 Indiana Icebreaker at Brownstown Speedway. Moran beat Thornton to the checkers by 1.118 seconds for his second career Brownstown triumph (last year's Icebreaker paid $15,000) and his 18th career full-field Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory.
Quotable: “It was a hard fought race the entire time," Moran said. "The initial start, Garrett (Alberson) and J.D. (Jonathan Davenport) were on the bottom and I just made hay around the top of three and four. I had a really good race car, but I felt like they were on me the whole race. There at the end, it started getting a little bottom dominant and I was just trying to maintain and get in front of them lapped cars. It was a fun race to win.”
Key notes: Moran now sits tied with Ricky Thornton Jr. in the points standings as they each have four series wins apiece thus far. ... The sixth-starting Thornton, winner of Friday's $15,000 Buckeye Spring 50 at Atomic Speedway, threw a turn-three slider at Moran on the lap-33 restart, but never truly challenged again over the final 18 laps. ... Pole-starting Jonathan Davenport regained third from Mike Marlar on the final lap. ... The tenth-starting Marlar, winner of last fall's $50,000 Jackson 100, settled for his second fourth-place effort in as many nights. ... Josh Rice, Friday's runner-up at Atomic, grabbed fifth from Daulton Wilson as they came to the line. ... Garrett Alberson overcame a spin from ninth on lap 27 and finished 14th. ... Michael Chilton finished 15th aboard the Hatcher Motorsports No. 6 Longhorn. ... Jason Jameson finished 17th after he and Cory Lawler tangled to draw the race's first caution on the third lap. Lawler continued and placed 23rd. ... Brandon Sheppard and Hudson O'Neal made contact as they battled for the lead in the fourth heat race, with Sheppard nosing into the frontstretch wall. Sheppard failed to transfer through a consolation and was credited with 18th after utilizing a series provisional. ... O'Neal ran as high as second in the early going before his engine threw a rod as he ran third on lap 33. A large trail of oil appeared as he was pushed to the pits. ... Jared Bailey utilized the track's provisional before retiring on the second lap. ... The feature was slowed by three cautions and lasted 24 minutes, with 19 starters completing 50 laps and 24 running at the finish.
On the move: Ross Robinson of Georgetown, Del., started 26th and finished 10th.
