Dave Hess Jr. heads for a career-high $20,000 victory.
What won the race: Sliding by Bryce Davis after he led all but one lap, sixth-starting Dave Hess Jr. of Waterford, Pa., paced the final two circuits to win Saturday's Bill Emig Memorial at Lernerville Speedway. Hess collected $20,000, his first RUSH Crate Late Model Series victory of the season and his first Emig Memorial triumph at Lernerville.
Quotable: “That was awesome. I know Max (Blair) ran both (races) and God .. after just 50 laps here, I don’t know if I would've made it to 150, they’d be putting me in the ambulance out of the car,” Hess said. “Boy, it’s awesome racing with these guys, that was the most fun I’ve had in a really long time. I wasn’t sure if we were gonna be able to have enough time there, but it all came together. Honestly, it was one of the funnest races in my career.”
Key notes: Hess was also awarded the event championship ring — valued at $7,000 — courtesy of D&V Jewelers. .. The third-starting Davis, of Canisteo, N.Y., led 47 laps (1, 3-48) before giving way to Hess in the late going and finishing 0.793 of a second back. ... Three-time Emig Memorial winner Max Blair trailed Davis from lap 17-43 before also giving way to Hess and placing third. Blair was one of four drivers to compete in both Saturday features, completing all but one lap and finishing 12th in the Firecracker. ... Mason Zeigler placed fourth and was the only driver to complete all 150 main event laps across both Late Model tours. He finished eighth in the earlier Firecracker. ... Logan Zarin (20th in the Firecracker) and Michael Norris (22nd) were the other two drivers to compete in both events. ... Pole-starting Ryan Montgomery led the second lap before fading to a sixth-place result. ... The green-to-checkered 50-lapper lasted just 17 minutes, with 18 drivers completing the distance and 21 running at the finish. ... Damian Bidwell of Smethport, Pa., led all but the opening circuit to top the 15-lap, $500 non-qualifiers race.
On the move: Mason Zeigler of Chalk Hill, Pa., started 13th and finished fourth.
