Drake Troutman celebrates his $5,000 Firecracker 100 semifeature victory at Lernerville Speedway.
What won the race: Drake Troutman of Hyndman, Pa., dispatched early leader Mason Zeigler and led 20 of 25 laps to capture Friday's first Firecracker 100 semifeature at Lernerville Speedway. The $5,000 triumph was the 19-year-old's first career trip to Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory lane — albeit in a split-field event — and came by 0.443 of a second over Ross Robinson.
Quotable: “There was a pretty big cushion up there on the top side,” Troutman said. “We were just able to really race good there on the bottom. This Longhorn Chassis is really good. We’ve fought a lot of bad luck and just things happening. We are learning everyday on what not to do.”
Key notes: The victory was Troutman's first in the Late Model since last Oct. 13, 2023, at Lernerville on the United Late Model Series, snapping a 40-plus race winless skid in the division. ... Mason Zeigler of Chalk Hill, Pa., led the first two laps until jumping the turn-one cushion and ceding the spot to Troutman. Zeigler came back to lead laps 5-7 before Troutman overtook him for good on the eighth circuit; he faded to sixth in the finishing order. ... Two cautions slowed the semifeature: Lap two for 17th-running Forrest Trent, who spun off the racetrack in turn two, and on lap 16 for third-running Daulton Wilson, who spun in turn one navigating traffic. ... Combined points from both prelim nights set the lineup for Saturday’s heat races that precede consolations and the 100-lap, $50,000-to-win main event. … Thursday's prelim winners Ricky Thornton Jr. and Jonathan Davenport were in the second semifeature.
On the move: Gregg Satterlee of Indiana, Pa., started 11th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Troutman’s Longhorn Chassis carries sponsorship from Wheeler Fleet Solutions, RFI Resources, XS Batteries, Shaffer Construction, Industrial Dock & Door Company, Shoe’s Diesel Performance, Stone Natural Resources, Glassmere Fuel Service, D&R Trucking, Thunderhill Trucking, Rice Tire, Smith Warehouse, Claar's Notary, ABC Supply Company, CertainTeed, Jerry’s Siding, Roofing and Windows, Bilstein Shocks, Slicker Graphics, and Arizona Sports Shirts.
Points chase: Before Lernerville: 1. Ricky Thornton Jr. (3,470); 2. Jonathan Davenport (3,285); 3. Devin Moran (3,105); 4. Tim McCreadie (2,935); 5. Mike Marlar (2,880); 6. Hudson O'Neal (2,845); 7.
