Tyler Erb grabs his fifth DIRTcar Summer Nationals victory of the season.
What won the race: Threading the needle of a turn-four slider by Tanner English, sixth-starting Tyler Erb of New Waverly, Texas, led the final 24 laps unchallenged to win Friday's 40-lap DIRTcar Summer Nationals feature at Brownstown Bullring. Erb's $10,000 triumph is his fifth on this year's Hell Tour, increasing his career total to nine, and his total race winnings to more than $35,000 through the first seven events.
Quotable: “I can race these guys clean, you know I left (Daryn) Klein a lane there in the heat race and he was able to beat us, his car has been good and in the feature, that’s where it pays,” Erb said. “I definitely just went as hard as I could for 40 laps and, you know, dogged on him really as much as I possibly could. Hats off to my guys, this deal is tough, it’s hot and they don’t give up.”
Key notes: The fourth-starting English, of Benton, Ky., led 12 laps (5-16) before slipping to third. ... Ryan Unzicker took the runner-up spot from English on lap 34, but couldn't cut into Erb's lead and finished 3.715 seconds back. ... Daryn Klein paced the opening four circuits from the pole before settling for fifth. ... Hall of Famer Billy Moyer improved six positions and placed seventh. ... After transferring through a consolation Shannon Babb improved to 10th before retiring on lap 32. ... Friday's seventh round was completed without incident and lasted 10 minutes, with 13 drivers completing the distance and 16 running at the checkers. ... Thomas Hunziker climbed the turn-four cushion and rolled over during his time trial attempt; he was uninjured, but couldn't transfer out of the night's first consolation.
On the move: Runner-up finisher Ryan Unzicker of El Paso, Ill., started 11th.
Winner's sponsors: Erb’s winning Best Performance Motorsports Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Langenfelder Mechanical Contractors, Bulk Material Lift, First Class Septic, Roberts Bee Company, Anthony’s Pizza, JRR Trucking, Base Racing Fuel, Base Oil, Sani-Weld, Inc., Keyser Manufacturing, Integra Racing Shocks, Go Lithium Batteries, Midwest Sheet Metal, Terbo Threads and KBC Graphix.
