Tyler Erb salutes the Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 crowd.
What won the race: Sweeping around fellow front-row-starter Jason Feger on the third lap, Tyler Erb of New Waverly, Texas, raced to his sixth DIRTcar Summer Nationals victory of the season Saturday at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55. Erb took the checkers 1.117 seconds ahead of the pole-starting Feger for a $10,000 payday at the third-mile oval.
Quotable: "I was honestly kind of getting a little worried there in traffic. They were just kind of three-wide and (the track surface) got a little clean in the middle there, where that was kind of the lane to be, I felt like," Erb said. "Down here (in turns one and two), I was like, man, 'If I ever give up this top or mess something up here and they get underneath me, they might be able to slip by me getting into three here.' But my guys did a good job. ... I feel like every race we get better and better at communicating."
Key notes: Erb has 10 career Summer Nationals victories. ... Runner-up Jason Feger kept Erb honest much of the race, but Erb began stretching his lead the final 10 laps. ... The race's lone caution flew on the 25th lap for a slowing Blaze Burwell. ... I-55 has drawn at least 32 cars each Summer Nationals event going back as early as 1996.
On the move: Billy Moyer of Batesville, Ark., started 18th and finished ninth.
Winner's sponsors: Erb’s winning Best Performance Motorsports Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Langenfelder Mechanical Contractors, Bulk Material Lift, First Class Septic, Roberts Bee Company, Anthony’s Pizza, JRR Trucking, Base Racing Fuel, Base Oil, Sani-Weld, Inc., Keyser Manufacturing, Integra Racing Shocks, Go Lithium Batteries, Midwest Sheet Metal, Terbo Threads and KBC Graphix.
Points chase: Week 2 points after I-55: 1. Jason Feger (350); 2. Tyler Erb (334); 3. Garrett Smith (274); 4. Kye Blight (265); 5. Billy Moyer (255). Overall points after I-55: 1. Tyler Erb (573); 2. Jason Feger (535); 3. Kye Blight (403); 4. Dillon McCowan (395); 5. Billy Moyer (363).
